Oriental Magpie Robin
Abundant resident and widely distributed in Hong Kong. The Oriental Magpie Robin (鵲鴝又名豬屎渣,是香港人喜愛飼養的寵物鳥) , a common and tame bird, is capable of making a number of voices, sometimes imitating the calls of other birds. It is terrestrial, hopping along the ground with cocked tail.
Oriental Magpie-Robin searches for food on the ground, hopping with raised tail and foraging for preys. Male has glossy blue-black upper parts, head, throat and upper breast. Long tail is black, with white outer feathers. Wings are black with two bold, long, white wing bars. Underparts are white. Females are grey and white.
Yesterday morning when walking along Bowen Road, other than a flock of Black-throated Laughing-thrush (黑喉噪鶥), we found also a male Oriental Magpie Robin (鵲鴝), standing on a branch.
